T.S. Eliot
Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1888 to a privileged New England family, Thomas Stearns Eliot (commonly known as T.S. Eliot) was destined for success. Studying and working at world-renowned universities such as Harvard and Oxford, T.S. Eliot took an interest in literature and eventually became the chief editor for the publishing company Faber & Faber.
T.S. Eliot focused his writing on representing the complexities of society. However, such representations lead to difficult poetry. Regardless of the ambiguity of his works, Eliot had an enormous impact on poetry in the early 1900s. T.S. Eliot eventually joined the Anglican Church and, although he prided himself on separating his faith from his literary works, traces of his beliefs became more and more evident in his later works.
His famous poetic works include "A Love Song for J. Alfred Prufrock" (1917,) "The Waste Land" (1922,) "Ash Wednesday" (1930) and "Four Quartets" (1943) while his dramatic works include "Murder in the Cathedral," "The Family Reunion" and "The Cocktail Party." For his interesting and unique approach to literature as well as his ambiguous representations of social situations, T.S. Eliot has remained a renowned poet throughout the twentieth century.
